Job Purpose

This role will function as the subject matter expert, Functional, & Technical Lead for key weld systems including servo’s, variable frequency drives, motion, and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming. The duties performed will include planning of manufacturing, installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical apparat. This will include performance of engineering duties such as planning of systems deployment, weld oversight/direction setting, installation, operation, and maintenance. This role will function as the technical expert for all associated systems and their programs/configuration. This role will lead and coordinate with department side leaders and technical staff to ensure the optimization of key production technologies are optimized and are stable for production.

Key Accountabilities

  • Review downtime, and apply Plan Do Check Act (PDCA) methods
  • Evaluate & approve changes to equipment or process for improving the running or downtime conditions
  • Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling electrical components, soliciting observations from operators
  • Identify and approve opportunities for improvement for Key Performance Indicators and for cost avoidance/elimination
  • Approve electrical engineering drawings at the various design completion levels 
  • Ensure project schedules are on track and in alignment with budget to achieve construction cost estimates
  • Approve the use of new technologies/processes that can drive continuous improvement
  • Assist shutdown activities to achieve planned shutdown outcomes
  • Mentor associates and build new expertise and transfer expertise to equipment service, maintenance staff, and engineering to maximize electrical knowledge and capability
  • Work on complex/sophisticated projects and/or processes
  • Approve engineering design concepts
  • Assist in equipment installation while maintaining high accuracy workmanship
  • Develop, implement, & maintain plant-wide reports for system utilization to drive continuous improvement
  • Provide technical expertise towards the increased efficiency of data utilization & leverage 
  • Complex troubleshooting & analysis of equipment to resolve issues within these systems in a timely manner
  • Peer mentoring & development of other engineering members
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Robotics, Equipment, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems Engineering) or relevant experience required
  • 5-7 years of experience equipment engineering, electrical engineering, or robotics/ automation engineering
  • Strong interpersonal and people management, systems/technical leadership, business planning, project leadership, and reliability (troubleshooting,5-Why, RC Analysis), systems/technical leadership skills. Skill in PLC troubleshooting, and advanced problem solving. Ability to: analyze problems to determine root cause and implement countermeasures; read and comprehend electrical and mechanical drawings; clearly and concisely document thoughts, ideas, requirements, and problems; monitor and ensure safety compliance. Proficient with Microsoft applications, & applicable reporting software.
