Westchester Magazine is looking for its newest editorial staff team member. The editorial assistant will help us inform our audience about all the cool things happening in Westchester, including the worlds of food and drink, travel, recreation, history, arts and culture, and lifestyle — just to name a few. The candidate should live or plan to live in Westchester. It’s a great opportunity for a recent journalism graduate or an experienced journalist looking for a full-time position. Responsibilities Assist the Editorial Director and Executive Editor with administrative tasks Write articles for all sections of the magazines, with emphasis on front-of-book articles. Contribution to lengthy features is expected within three months of onboarding. Write occasional articles for the websites: westchestermagazine.com Write captions and headlines for features and departments. Research, fact-check, and proofread articles Become proficient in Adobe InCopy to input edits, fact-checks, credits, and captions into the layout. Participate in pitch/idea meetings. Staying up to date on local happenings is essential. Visit local businesses and venues for interview and research purposes. Collect photos from venues, agencies, and individuals; send and receive photo release forms. Help associate editor collect invoices from writers and maintain monthly workflow spreadsheets. Excellent writing and proofreading skills — can write smart, pithy copy with personality and wit. Live in or plan to live in Westchester. Superior time-management and multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize deadlines on a rolling basis. The ability to work quickly and autonomously without micromanagement and be an active, engaged member of a collaborative, creative team. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree.
