American Express National Bank (AENB) is American Express' U.S. banking operation serving customer and small business customers with payments, financing and savings products. AENB accounts for more than 60% of the overall company's revenues and net income. AENB HQ drives the administration of programs and services provided by AENB, in partnership with the various businesses, functions, and executive officers. The AENB COO Offices also plays an enterprise role in driving greater consistency, effectiveness, and efficiency across the first line via its Strategic Planning, Control Management, Program Management, and Governance functions.
The Analyst, AENB Affiliate Management will be responsible for delivering affiliate financial reporting, providing financial insights, and strengthening partnerships with Affiliate and Controllership teams. The reporting produced in this role will support Bank Management, Affiliates, and the Bank's Board in managing contractual relationships and driving sound decision-making. This role is critical in ensuring affiliate services remain complaint, well-documented, and aligned with regulatory expectations, including but not limited to Regulation W sections 23A and 23B and the Interagency Guidance on Third-Party Relationships: Risk Management.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare AENB Affiliate financial reporting, ensuring compliance with affiliate agreements and contracts.
Perform month-end close activities, including variance analysis, journal entries, accruals, settlements, and account reconciliations.
Support audits, exams, regulatory reviews and compliance testing related to AENB financial reporting.
Provide accounting support for special projects tied to strategic initiatives.
Execute a risk-based contract management framework to enable effective oversight of affiliate relationships.
Conduct due diligence activities based on defined criteria and risk assessments.
Monitor adherence to Third-Party Management and Transactions with Affiliates policies.
Facilitate ongoing discussions with Bank Management and Affiliates.
Prepare and deliver monthly reporting packages for Bank Management and the Bank's Board.
Ensure all activities comply with Regulation W-23A & 23B, along with related governance requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, accounting principles, and financial reporting.
Experience with month-end close processes, journal entries, accruals, settlements, and reconciliations.
Strong attention to detail and superior organizational & follow-through skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
Ability to systematically analyze complex problems, draw relevant conclusions, implement appropriate solutions, and adapt to change while keeping a continuous improvement mindset.
Proven collaboration skills along with the ability to influence without authority.
Effectively works independently within a team construct, while supporting teamwork and achievement of team objectives.
Familiarity with American Express' organization structure, legal contracts and governance activities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience with Affiliate Risk Management and Interagency Guidance on Third-Party Relationships & Risk Management is a plus.
Previous experience with Oracle/SmartView preferred.
